Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial Inc. has always seen the placement of the memorial on First Street and Second Avenue East as the first step in a long process of community reconciliation and healing. That means ongoing work with other community organizations (See Community) in dealing with the tenacious poison of racism in our midst, whether it be in the school system, government, or on the street. Members of our board have attended national events such as the Southern Exposure Conference in Mississippi to network with other communities around the nation who are likewise working to confront historic wrongs and create a present and future where a true and deep racial reconciliation is achieved.

CJMM Inc. continues to challenge and support local institutions to acknowledge that racism and discrimination exist in our community, hear from those impacted by that discrimination, and work with them to acknowledge their role in changing. In that goal, we work with other organizations and communities to undo racism in Duluth.
And of course, we also continue to be a friend and host to the Memorial, and remember our original mission in memory of Elmer Jackson, Isaac McGhie, and Elias Clayton.
